American Thinker Post, Harrisburg Flood of 2011, Santelli Schools Friedman, and Perry Tries to Intimidate Paul?

Forgot to mention it yesterday, but I had an post on the American Thinker addressing the absurd notion from the likes of Paul Krugman that destruction breeds economic prosperity.  The timing is curious though as my own area, as well as the whole Harrisburg area, is currently being flooded to a level not seen in decades.  According to Paul Krugman, this should breed all sorts of new consumer spending to replace things that were lost.  By this logic, I should just punch myself in the face till I break my nose so I can spend money to get it repaired.  Just imagine if everyone in the country did the same thing.  Think of the spending that would take place!

But that is beside the point.  I spent a good two to three hours bucketing water out of my father's basement as well as the elderly neighbors' across the street when the power went out.  Thankfully the electricity returned, thus restarting the sump pump to continue draining water.  With the power out all over town though, it was quite a sight to see how people and businesses adjusted to an unprecedented disaster.  The local pizza shop (which I patronize frequently for carry out beer) was able to stay open through either the use of a generator or perhaps because their stoves use gas.  I am not sure.  The local Turkey Hill was shut down for a few hours but had a generator brought in to stay open and soak up the excess demand.  After the generator started up, business was booming.  So clearly the local businesses saw this as an opportunity rather than a disaster and potential loss of profits.  Or in Paul Krugman's words, those greedy capitalist bastards were clearly exploiting the crisis to provide goods to the masses who desperately needed them.

As for the local government's response, the citizens of Middletown were blessed with the blaring sirens and flashing lights of a multitude of emergency response vehicles that drove around without any clear purpose other than to go to flooded areas and watch the water rise.  It's seriously a shame to see so many young kids volunteering their time to be fire fighters while not actually accomplishing anything besides putting on an overweight suit.

This was a huge bright spot in my day however.  Watch as Rick Santelli totally annihilates Thomas Friedman on Social Security being a Ponzi Scheme:

SANTELLI: I’d just like to know – you know, I was watching that debate last night, although it really wasn’t a debate,” Santelli said. “It was like a weird press conference. But I would like to know – does Mr. Friedman think Social Security is a Ponzi scheme?
FRIEDMAN: No, I don’t think it’s a Ponzi scheme.
SANTELLI: Earlier in the show you said that we’re putting the burden on our kids that’s unsustainable. What’s the definition of a Ponzi scheme?
FRIEDMAN: It’s a program that made promises that it cannot keep in full and it needs to be fixed and reformed.
SANTELLI: Isn’t that exactly what a Ponzi pyramid is?
FRIEDMAN: I don’t think it is a Ponzi scheme as a criminal endeavor.
SANTELLI: No, no – forget the criminal side. You need more people to perpetuate a myth because if the people stop the myth is known to all. That’s my definition of a Ponzi scheme. Let’s call at it chain letter, a pyramid scheme. Isn’t that by definition what Social Security is? Take the legalities and fraud out.
STEVE LIESMAN: Why is it a Ponzi scheme, Rick?
FRIEDMAN: It is pay as we go. Ronald Reagan fixed it. Why can’t we fix it?
SANTELLI: What does Ronald Reagan have to do with my question?
FRIEDMAN: What does your question have to do with reality?
MICHELLE CARUSO CABRERA: We brought it up.
SANTELLI: You can’t decide that more people is the only thing made Social Security work. We have a real issue because many people in government seem to like to read your work.
FRIEDMAN: What makes Social Security work is fixing Social Security in terms of the population demands.
SANTELLI: I didn’t ask if we should fix it or not. I asked if it’s a pyramid scheme.
FRIEDMAN: Your question is idiotic. That’s what you asked.
SANTELLI: You’re answer is idiotic. I’m done. I feel good.
FRIEDMAN: So do I.
Friedman's facial expression tells it all.  He desperately wants to take his toys and go home.  The dude is a joke.  Put a fork in him, that pig is done.
I will end with pointing out a few picks of Rick Perry trying to intimidate Ron Paul during the commercial break of the debate last night:
This is my favorite:
You mad brah?

By the way, I am watching Obama's big jobs speech now.  It's a load of "Keynesianism will work this time I swear! Please trust me!" crap as usual.  Head of the AFL-CIO, Richard Trumka, is in the audience salivating as I type.
